🎣 A nice angling surprise during Storm Bert and Mr. Clumsy strikes again

With Storm Bert still in full flow, when I woke naturally this morning – before there was even a hint of first light – I could hear the torrential rain, without even looking through the window.

As for the wind, well you had to be deaf not to know that it was very powerful indeed.

As it happened, I had the option of fishing either first-thing or later in the afternoon.

I did have post-match work to do anyway, so I opted for the latter.

Even then, it was still wet and windy, just not as intense as it had been a few hours before.

I fish in all conditions but it’s not about bravado and, given the choice, I will always take the ‘easier’ option.

On arrival at the pool, I wasn’t surprised to see that it was the colour of hot chocolate. However, I have fished there before in those exact conditions, and I’ve caught as well.

Therefore, I was confident. Was my faith rewarded though?

The answer to that is, yes it was, and as always, you can see the fish caught in the video.

Plus, the Mr. Clumsy footage.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.

Fishing two rod-lengths from the bank in six-feet of water, I presented three red maggots over red/white maggots and brown crumb.

Nature notes

Two ring-necked parakeets in wood alongside the pool.
