🎣 Prawn after perch but was it a case of third time lucky?
After a spell of very pleasant late autumn weather, I woke to damp and drizzle this morning.
However, the common denominator is that I always go fishing anyway, regardless of the conditions.
I’ve had back-to-back blanks on the small pool that I’m fishing at the moment and, while the logical response to many would be to move on, I returned.
I do like a challenge and, as I fish most days anyway, while a couple of fish-less outings might represent a fortnight’s angling to many, for me it’s nothing at all when you see the big picture.
I fished for about 30 minutes without a single tap on the float then, using brown chrome, I had a roach dip immediately.
However, that was that and it most definitely wasn’t case of third time lucky.
Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 8 hook.
I fished a couple of rod-lengths out in six-feet of water.
I loose fed prawns and fished prawn on the hook.
The one change that I did make from previous sessions was to use brown crumb on this occasion.
Although it does tend to attract the pike, which is why I won’t use it if I can get away with it, nevertheless it seems there’s nothing out there at all at present, so at least there was the chance of drawing some fish in, even if just small roach initially to then attract some bigger perch.
Nature notes while fishing
One ring-necked parakeet heading into woodland alongside the pool. Others seen but not heard.
