🎣 Two working days away and back on the bank
Although I haven’t been fishing for two days due to working in south Wales, I don’t think I’ve particularly missed much on the piscatorial front.
On the way back home yesterday though, I took a detour to a pool, just to see if it was ice-free.
It was, and so that was my plan to return this morning, to do some angling.
We did have snow during the night at home but, by the morning, due to the rain that we also had following on from that, there were no mobility issues in terms of getting the car off the drive.
On arrival at the pool, although the majority of the surface was free of ice, nevertheless there was certainly a significant amount that wasn’t fishable.
In fact, in the two hours that I was there I noticed that the ice on the surface was spreading across the pool.
That gives you an idea of how cold it is at the moment.
Not making excuses but that’s why I didn’t even get a flicker on the float.
Are you out fishing at the moment? How’s it going, if you are?
Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.
Fishing a couple of rod lengths from the bank in six-feet of water, I presented bread over bread mash and a small amount of brown crumb.
Although I stayed with bread for most of the session, I did switch to a grain of a sweetcorn as well.
Nature notes
I heard a green woodpecker calling from woodland on several occasions, then it flew across the pool.
Two ravens in low flight, both calling as they made their way over the pool and beyond.
Grey heron flew the length of the pool but didn’t land.
Two ring-necked parakeets in flight. They are certainly becoming more common in recent years, although they do give themselves away due to the fact that they are very vocal.
Five long-tailed tits in trees on the nearside bank.
Female sparrowhawk in flight.
