🎣 ⚽️ Fishing a prawn between lily pads and my Champions League pitch doormat

📹 Footage from the pond and, once home, the doorstep

In spite of the pike issues that I had on my last small pond session, I returned to the same venue, hoping that this time the larger predators would not be present in the swim.

Not to avoid the predators entirely though, because I was targeting perch, and in a very specific way, with a float-fished prawn.

Again, dropping a bait in a clear spot between the lily pads, I fed maggots, prawns and felt confident.

I had a perch early on, followed by two bites that I missed, and then it went quiet.

Was there a pike in the swim?

On this occasion I didn’t know, because it was early morning session, and with all the overhanging trees the light wasn’t sufficient to be able to see everything.

When I’m on the pool later in the afternoon, it’s very different, as the sun is up and in another position.

The question was answered right at the end though, when I struck at a bite and just for a few brief moments, was connected to a small pike.

I also caught a nice roach as well.

Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.

Nature notes: I didn’t see them but I did hear two ring-necked parakeets in the area.

I was at Park Hall recently and my car was parked next to a skip.

I noticed that there were some offcuts from the pitch in there, so I took a couple of pieces and, once back home found that they fitted perfectly outside the front door, therefore they form my new doormat.

They can’t be many people that have a Champions League pitch as a doormat.
