🎣 Three species on a small pond angling session
Although I wasn’t up at the crack of dawn, nevertheless it was still an early start, as I loaded the car, made a flask of tea and set off for a small pond.
I’ve always liked fishing smaller venues and in many ways it takes me back to my childhood, because that’s all we had in the area where I lived, and even then they weren’t on my doorstep, so to speak.
I grew up not far from the English watershed and therefore springs and brooks were the order of the day.
Back to today’s session, the pond in question has a lot of lily growth which covers the surface.
However, you can always drop a bait between the pads, especially as I wasn’t fishing far from the bank.
It wasn’t even a case of casting, but rather dropping a bait (single white maggot) between the pads and then fishing over a steady trickle of loose maggots.
The water in the swim that I fished was just over 2 feet deep, and very clear as well, therefore watercraft is essential when you tackle these type of places.
I must have been doing the right thing though, because I had a bite every cast, which resulted in pretty much also a fish on the bank each time I flicked out the float.
A very pleasant couple of hours indeed and I caught roach (so many I lost count), perch (seven) and rudd (one).
