🎣 📻 The one that got away and the radio show

📹 Fishing and then talking about it

Following a day of heavy rain – which does both the rivers and the garden no harm at all – it was a beautiful morning, as I loaded the car and went tench fishing.

Once the rising sun had burnt the mist from the surface of the water, it was excellent for spotting feeding tench, courtesy of the bubbles that make their way to the surface of the lake.

As long as they are there, of course, but their absence was the case on this particular session.

Even the balls of brown crumb and sweetcorn didn’t stimulate an occasional bubble, never mind a feeding frenzy.

It became evident very early on that I was fishing for one tench.

It looked very good when I had a bite, struck, played a tench and brought it towards the landing net.

However, things don’t always go to plan do they?

The end result – a lost fish.

Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 8mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce lead. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.

Nature notesSkylark singing, as is usually the case, over a crop field close to where I park my car. Not seen on this occasion.

Back home, before I went to work, I did my radio chats with Jeff Pearson for his Bayside radio afternoon show.

He always starts by asking me how I got on in my most recent session, therefore the one that got away was talked about.

As always, there are questions that listeners send to the station that I enjoy answering.

Following the angling conversation, we chatted Welsh football.

There’s always plenty to talk about in that segment as well, especially with four Cymru Premier sides currently competing in European competition.

That includes The New Saints, hence why I was going to work later in the morning, which was for a press conference interview with head coach, Craig Harrison.
