🗳️ 🎣 A vote in a box and tench in a net

📹 General election day and targeting tench

It was an evening angling session this time, as opposed to my more usual start of the day trips, due to the fact that I didn’t get to bed till the early hours of the morning, courtesy of a good couple of days north of the English border in Scotland.

The venue and species, however, remained the same as per my recent outings – lake and tench.

I mixed brown crumb and sweetcorn, threw a couple of balls about 20 metres from the bank, cast out a single grain of corn, put the rod in the rest, settled back and waited.

It may not have been a big fish, but the tench that I caught approaching the hour mark, meant that at least I wasn’t a blanker.

I doubled my tally on the last cast and you can see both fish in the video.

Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 8mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce lead. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.

Nature notesSwifts (c.25) over the lake. Raven in flight. Brown rat ran in front of me, just a few inches from my feet (twice). Noctule feeding over the lake at dusk. Pair of song thrushes feeding on grass when I got back to the car.

Naturally, with it being general election voting day, I mention that in the video,

I will be staying up all night and, as well as general interest, there are a number of seats in particular that I will be looking out for.

If you’re burning the midnight oil – and beyond – enjoy!
