🎣 Variety is the spice of life, as they say, and after a couple of sessions on a pond and one on the river seven, it was nice to get back to the lake in pursuit of tench
Back on the lake, it hasn’t been fishing well for a while now, with the general lack of feeding bubbles an indication that the fish aren’t as obliging as they were at the start of the tinca season.
However, as long as your bait’s in the water and all that.
It was my usual approach, as I baited a spot about twenty metres from the bank with brown crumb and sweetcorn, then cast a single grain of corn over that in order to try and tempt a fish.
I didn’t even get a bite.
What was particularly noticeable though is that, in the time I was there, not one single other tench angler put in an appearance.
Word must have got round that the lake’s not fishing well at present.
Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 8mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce lead. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.
