🎣 A morning session pursuing perch and at least I wasn’t a blanker
Although the alarm was set to go fishing, nevertheless I was up well before the designated time.
As it was still dark, I got up anyway because I had a football programme column that I needed to write.
After I finished, and sent it via email to the editor, I made a flask of tea, loaded the car and set off for a short fishing session.
Plus, I scraped ice off the windshield.
As we head into winter, that will be something that I will be doing more of.
We were only just into dawn when I cast out, but there was enough light to show the float sailing away within seconds of flicking the bait into the water.
Then it went quiet. Very quiet.
I did have another bite – and a fish on – although the decent enough perch decided it didn’t like the hook and that was that.
At least I wasn’t a blanker.

Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
After the lost fish, I decided to switch to a size 8 hook.
A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.
I loose fed prawns, although not that many, as the session was extremely slow.
Nature notes while fishing
A kingfisher landed in overhanging branches next to where I was fishing.
