🎣 Scrape ice, go fishing, catch fish

Up at 5.00 a.m. and before I left home, I wrote, published and shared an article for The New Saints.

Then my mind turned to angling.

If yesterday’s challenge was fishing in 5,000 mph winds, this time round it was actually reality rather than a website error, because although it wasn’t anything to do with the wind itself, nevertheless I was scraping ice off the car windshield.

I knew it was going to be tough, and after parking the car while then making my way to the pool, I thought it was going to be virtually impossible, because it looked like the venue had frozen.

It did surprise me because this is the first frost and it’s usually when it’s been cold for a long period of time before pools start to freeze over.

However, as I got closer, I saw that it was just a grey mist hanging over the surface of the water that gave the appearance that it was ice.

So, although I knew it was going to be a challenge, at least I could get a bait in the water, and that means you always have a chance.

You can follow the session via the video.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.

A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.

I loose fed prawns and used a lot less than normal, due to the conditions.

Nature notes while fishing

Several jay sightings, all in flight. At least two birds.
