🎣 Perch fishing, a great life lesson and a walk around our local area

Back on the small pool and in pursuit of perch with prawn, I once again had a hook-pull on a nice fish early in the session.

There’s nothing wrong with the hooks themselves and my thoughts are that, as we move on in the year, the fish aren’t taking the bait as boldly as they would have done a few weeks or so back.

Then, say no more, as pike moved in.

That almost became the kiss of death, as the bites dried up completely, following that initial lost fish.

Right at the very end, though, in response to what I saw in the water, I changed my approach.

The life lesson is, if things aren’t going the way that you wanted them to then try something different.

There’s more on that in the video, as well as footage from the area where I live.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.

A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.

I loose fed prawns but no brown crumb on this occasion.

The reason for that was to create minimum disturbance, therefore hoping to keep the pike at bay.

Plus, baiting exclusively with prawn, I also hoped to avoid the shoals of small roach, which also act as a magnet for the aforementioned predator.

Nature notes while fishing

Walking to the swim, while it was still mostly dark, I spotted a common frog making its way along the ground.

Again, before it was fully light, a green woodpecker flew overhead, silhouetted perfectly against the breaking sky.
