🍁 October 2024

🎣 You get out the violin, I’ll get out the fishing rod, a lesson in perseverance and a nice local woodland walk

Eight days in to the new month and this is just my fourth angling session.

Not that I’ve lost my enthusiasm, or anything like that, far from it.

With two football games so far in October, added together that’s three nights away.

So, when you take into account travelling etc, that’s why I’ve only fished four times in eight days.

The vast majority of anglers reading this though are thinking, let’s get out the violin.

I only fish four times in a month, never mind a week.

You can follow the session via the video.

Once home, I went with my wife and dog for a local woodland walk.

I love where I live, it’s brilliant.

It brings out the country boy in me, for sure.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.

A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.

I loose fed prawns but no brown crumb on this occasion.

The reason for that was to create minimum disturbance, therefore hoping to keep the pike at bay.

Plus, baiting exclusively with prawn, I also hoped to avoid the shoals of small roach, which also act as a magnet for the aforementioned predator.

Nature notes while fishing

On arrival at the swim, a kingfisher flew from overhanging branches.

As I cast out for the first time, while still not properly light, I saw a noctule feeding above trees on the far bank.
