🎣 Fish in adverse conditions if you have to but avoid them if you can, the garden and the garage and throwing arrows in my man cave

The days are noticeably longer now and, assuming the conditions are bright, you can be fishing at 7:30 am instead of after eight, as it was just a month or so ago.

The earlier the better as far as I’m concerned, especially when we hit the summer and you get more bank side activity, that isn’t always positive as far as fishing is concerned.

For now though, it’s not a problem, as without doubt the winter sees less people outdoors than the summer.

Casting out, I settled back and made myself a cup of tea, and watched the float.

It was an hour into the session before I had the first bite, which resulted in a small roach on the bank.

This was followed by just my second perch of the year.

The early start also meant I missed another band of heavy rain and 40-50 m.p.h. wind that passed through the wider area.

Fish in adverse conditions if you have to but avoid them if you can.

I fished in five feet of water, over brown crumb and red/white maggots, with two red maggots on the hook, towards branches trailing in the water.

Tackle

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 1.2g float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.

Nature notes

Cormorant in passing flight. Song thrush feeding in undergrowth alongside the swim. Raven calling in flight. Two noisy ring-necked parakeets in flight. Common buzzard mobbed by two jackdaws

Once home, I spent some time in the garden gathering leaves, twigs etc from the recent storm. Plus, general tidying both back and front.

I also had some time tidying in the garage.

I enjoy pottering around the home, both inside and out.

Then, as far as the filming is concerned, I threw some arrows in my man cave.
