❄️ Blogging in January 2025

🗣️ One month in and how’s it going?

It’s been one calendar month since I retired and it’s gone so quickly.

Time flies when you’re having fun.

To say I’m loving it, is putting it mildly. I could quite easily run out of superlatives to describe the last month.

One very tangible difference is that I’m not filling the car with petrol anywhere near as much as I was.

In fact, when I hit four actual weeks of retirement a few days ago, I had done less than 400 miles in the car, and I’ve only just passed that now, as it’s a calendar month.

Based on the fact that it looks like I’ll only be visiting the petrol station a dozen times a year, financially it’s a huge positive.

I might add a few more trips when we go on holiday but it will just be a fraction of the gas my car was guzzling before.

Plus, the car will last longer, as the miles added are considerably less.

The tyres and the other parts that wear out based on mileage, will also have extended lives of months and years.

The main thing though is the quality of life that I now have and, although I’ve referred to financial benefits regarding the car, that’s something that money will never be able to buy.

As I’ve already stated, I’m loving it.

Fishing every day and that’s just for starters. That in itself is livin’ the dream.

Although I have no intention of going back to full-time structured work, you always have to be open-minded, don’t you?

Certainly as far as a one-day a week, occasional and casual approach is concerned, I’m open to that.

At my age though, I won’t be applying for anything. It will have to be a case of being ‘head-hunted’.

You never know what’s around life’s corner though, do you?

In the weeks and months leading up to when I gave my notice in at work, I quoted a scripture on numerous occasions to my wife. It became a real inspiration during that time.

Interestingly, today it is also the random verse of the day on the Bible app (YouVersion) that I use daily.

‘Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.’

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭21‬ ‭NIV‬‬
