❄️ Blogging in January 2025

🎣 Third time lucky with bream, followed by talking angling on radio

With my weekly radio slot scheduled for mid-morning, it was always going to be a short angling session and, with heavy rain overnight, I very much had in mind the two bream that I had lost on a particular pool when it was also heavily coloured.

I was there for less than two hours and I had, what I would call, a steady trickle of small roach, which you can see of them in the video.

Then, right at the very end – in fact, it was the last cast – the float dipped and the fish raced off.

Initially, I didn’t know what it was and even pike went through my mind, thinking I had hooked a small jack.

However, after an initial burst of a few seconds, that run was halted and the fish came in very tamely indeed.

It was a bream!

After the previous lost fish, which you’ll know all about if you follow my blogs on a regular basis, I was very happy indeed to slip it into the waiting landing net.

Not that I believe in it, but it was certainly a case of, as they say, third time lucky.

I fished a couple of rod-lengths out, in six feet of water, over brown crumb and red/white maggots, with two red maggots on the hook, just off a sharp drop-off.
