🎣 Saying farewell to January with bream and roach on the bank
For my final angling session of the month, I headed for a small pool that has featured regularly in my plans so far this year.
With lots of roach, it’s ideal for winter angling.
They are mostly small fish but occasionally something bigger puts in an appearance.
On this occasion, as well as tiny roach I caught a bream.
They are in there, although not many and you certainly couldn’t target them in a focused way, but it’s always great when they turn up.
Tackle and bait: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 1.2g float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
I fished a couple of rod-lengths out, in six feet of water, over brown crumb and red/white maggots, with two red maggots on the hook, just off a sharp drop-off.

Nature notes: Although not seen, heard two very vocal green woodpeckers when I arrived. Two very noisy ring-necked parakeets in woodland. Calling raven in flight. Cormorant in flight.
