🎣 A morning angling session and the importance of perseverance and tweaking around the edges
I’m off to a working game of football later this afternoon, but before then, first thing this morning I was on a pond, in pursuit of roach.
It was a very murky, grey and overcast day with nothing showing at all on the surface of the water.
My original intention was to fish for a couple of hours, but this stretched to four!
I did have a few enquiries but nothing on the bank.
There are those times when you know that it’s just not going to work but, on other occasions, you just have that gut feeling that you should persevere.
It was a case of the latter on this occasion.
I caught right at the very end.
A lesson in perseverance indeed, but also, it was about the importance of tweaking around the edges.
I changed my float, hook and bait approach.
Not a big roach but it saved a blank.
It’s also a life lesson. What we think is a huge, insurmountable problem, might only need a few tweaks to get it sorted.
Next stop, Bala.
Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Home-made 3” float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
Fishing towards overhanging trees, started off with three red maggots on a size 16 hook.
After several single sucked maggots, switched to one white maggot on a size 16 hook.
In addition, I switched from the previous 1.2g waggler to a much smaller one.
Fished over brown crumb and red/white maggots.
Nature notes
Two silent ravens in low flight passing through.
One very noisy ring-necked parakeet high in flight.
