🎣 Fishing in Storm Darragh

As always, there are two important points to make regarding fishing in storms.

First of all, and this is the most important one, safety has to be the foundation on which you build the session.

Secondly, you have to fish somewhere where you can actually present the bait.

As far as both points were concerned, I knew the perfect place.

I wasn’t putting my life in danger and I knew, from the location of the pond, that I could fish, even in a strong winds, knowing that the surface would be such so that I could watch a float tip in the water.

I arrived, put out some bait, cast out, made a cup of tea and waited.

And waited. And waited.

Three hours later, I made my way back to the car without even a bite.

Yes, of course, it was a difficult session.

The umbrella blew away a few times as I found myself battling the extreme gusts of wind.

I still enjoyed it though.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Home-made 3” float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.

Two rod-lengths from the bank in five feet of water, beneath overhanging branches.

Fished two red maggots  over brown crumb and red/white maggots.

Nature notes

Nothing at all in flight but I did hear a green woodpecker in woodland beyond the far bank.
