🎣 A very pleasant angling surprise to start the day and a reminder that, as long as your bait’s in the water, you’ve always got a chance
Due to my car being serviced yesterday, there was no fishing, however this morning I was back on track.
There was a gentle breeze but, compared to what we’ve been through in the last few days, it was hardly noticeable.
I fished a pond, with roach as the realistic target.
The water temperature, although I didn’t use the thermometer, is rock-bottom at the moment.
Therefore, it was a very pleasant surprise indeed, when the float indicated that there was an interested fish, which turned out to be a bream.
I did catch roach later but the bream is a reminder that, as long as your bait’s in the water, you’ve always got a chance.
That’s not just a great fishing principle but also one for life in general.
Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Home-made 3” float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
Two rod-lengths from the bank in five feet of water, beneath an overhanging tree.
Fished two white maggots over brown crumb and red/white maggots.
Nature notes
Raven calling (but not seen) from nearby woodland when I arrived at the pool.
Two very noisy ring-necked parakeets in high flight.
