Starting the day pursuing pool perch with worm and how to use forceps
🎣 Fishing at first-light
Yesterday evening I collected worms and, this morning, it was time to fish with them.
I was back on the pool that has occupied my time, as far as angling is concerned, this month with the only difference being the change in hook bait.
I got off to a great start when, before I even put any brown crumb out, or even poured my first cup of tea of the day, the float sailed away and I netted a small perch.
I added several others during the session.
🪱 Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.
I fished with a single worm section and, due to the depth of water, I created a firm groundbait mix which contained loose maggots and prawns, so that everything was on the bed of the pool within seconds of hitting the water.
🦆 Nature notes while fishing
Grey wagtail in flight.
Several ring-necked parakeets heard but not seen.

As well as the fish caught, there’s also a demonstration of how to use forceps on a deep-hooked fish.
