💰 🎣 Premium bonds draw, tench fishing and Maxima Chameleon
With the monthly premium bonds draw results released just after midnight, my wife and I gathered around her phone, as we clicked for the reveal.
I was first, with the announcement telling me that I had hit a treble.
With £25, £50 and £50, the checkout was satisfactory.
What about my wife though?
Well, if I used darts terms for mine, it’s a fishing one for her.
She blanked.
After a few hours sleep, I was back in the land of the living to go fishing.
Another nice start to the day and another couple of hours or so tench session on a lake.
With a few maggots still to use up, I mixed those in with the brown crumb and sweetcorn, feeding a spot about twenty metres from the bank.
I started with four white maggots on the hook and caught the first tench plus perch.
Switching to a grain of corn, I stuck with that for a while before switching back to maggots.
Statistically, three of the five tincas were caught on maggots.
The tench were a nice average, as far as size was concerned, and weighing the third one it took the scales to 5lb 14oz.
Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 8mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce lead. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.
Nature notes: Singing skylark over field adjacent to where I parked on arrival. Two feeding swallows skimming the surface of the lake.
Ordered yesterday, my bulk spool of 4lb Maxima Chameleon arrived today.
I’ve used it for decades and it’s never disappointed.
It’s never let me down, so if it’s not broken don’t fix it, and there’s no need to replace it with anything else.
