🦔 🎣 📻 The hedgehog, the angling session and the radio
It’s still light well after 9.30 in the evening, and looking out of the patio window, I saw our resident hedgehog in the garden.
I captured some footage and that features at the start of the video.
Continuing with my current habit of a couple of hours or so tench fishing first thing, I made my flask, loaded the car and was on my way in no time at all.
The big difference this time was that I switched from sweetcorn to maggots.
I’ve got some in the fridge at home that are beginning to turn and so, rather than waste them, I decided to use them as an alternative bait.
As far as fish quantity was concerned, it worked, with numerous perch and roach on the bank.
I even had a small pike but no tench.
The tincas were out there though, I could see that from the feeding bubbles.
I think it was a case of the other species getting to the bait first.
Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 8mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce lead. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.
Nature notes: Approximately 50 swifts feeding over the lake.
Once home, I showered and changed for my weekly Bayside Radio chats with Jeff Pearson.
Talking Welsh football and fishing, there’s some of the latter in the video.
