🎣 I targeted tincas at one end of the day and chased crucians at the other

The crucian carp is one of our less widespread fish and it’s also one of our most elusive.

There’s a pool that I have access to that contains only crucians and a few tench.

I’ve fished it a handful of times in the last few years, with just one tinca to show for my efforts.

Although I’m not on Facebook now, when I was the feedback from others who had fished there was based on the same lack of crucian action.

In fact, I can’t recall one fish ever being reported.

Whether it’s the challenge, the lure of the species or the beautiful setting – or a combination of all three – I do find myself thinking about the venue, especially at this time of the year.

Arriving for an evening’s fishing, I broke a float, had tangles on both rods and felt very dysfunctional overall.

It was just one of those sessions. We all have them from time to time, don’t we?

Anyway, I fished with a float close to lilies and light leger a couple of yards further on, with maggot and corn respectively over brown crumb, mixed maggots and sweetcorn.

I had a dip on the float right at the very end but that was it.

I saw just four signs of fish topping.
