Minder: I’ll Never Forget Whats’ername (1993)
Season 9 episode 1.
Once he realises that there’s money for the winner, Arthur enters a team in a pub quiz competition.
It just so happens that Marty ‘Brains’ Goldblum has escaped from prison and he signs him up for the team.
However, Marty goes missing.
Ray and DC Field join the team and they win, with Arthur getting the last question right.
Minder: No Way to Treat a Daley (1993)
Season 9 episode 2.
Coming across an advertising balloon, Arthur decides to set up a new business.
In the process, he upsets Tony Pike and he’s kidnapped for a night on the marshes, to teach him a lesson.
The race is on, as Ray has to get to the building where he’s being held before Arthur is beaten up.
He gets there and disaster is avoided.
Minder: Uneasy Rider (1993)
Season 9 episode 3.
Welcome to Arthur’s new courier business, Daley Post, which came around because he picked up some radio equipment.
He employs a new set of staff, including Rabbit (played by Brian Hibbard, lead singer with Flying Pickets).
After mislaying a parcel, Arthur is being threatened, but rescued by a pair of JWs, who he invites in and keeps them talking.
Taking on work from the Warnock Brothers, he realises very quickly that it’s dodgy but manages to stay clear of the police.
Minder: Looking for Mr. Goodtime (1993)
Season 9 episode 4.
While driving around Soho, looking for a man who is selling a Daimler, Arthur gets arrested by the police for assault and kerb crawling.
He goes to court and, with the help of a number of witnesses, gets the case thrown out.
Minder: Opportunity Knocks And Bruises (1993)
Season 9 episode 5.
Arthur does a deal with a dodgy fairground owner and ends up with a fruit machine packed with Irish money.
He works out that it’s cash from a Dublin bank robbery that is being laundered.
In the meantime, the machine ends up with DS Morley for a fundraiser and Arthur desperately tries to win the money that is stored within via hundreds of 50p coins.
Morley becomes aware but he lets Arthur continue, as it’s more cash for charity.
Minder: Gone with the Winchester (1993)
Season 9 episode 6.
When Toby Johnson gets released from prison after 15 years, he connects with Arthur and Dave as they relive memories of their boyhood gang, the Brentford Backhanders.
Due to memories being stirred, Arthur suspects that Dave has always been against him and is currently still conspiring.
Arthur starts his own club to rival Dave.
Then the truth comes out and it was Toby all along that was causing trouble.
He steals Arthur’s takings and disappears.
Arthur and Dave make up.
Minder: How To Succeed In Business Without Really Retiring (1993)
Season 9 episode 7.
Trying to keep up with Hapless and his boasting, Arthur announced that he’s handing over the business to Ray and retiring.
He can’t let it go though and keeps hanging around and interfering.
It’s a good job as well because certain crooked individuals are trying to take advantage of Ray.
Minder: The Roof of All Evil (1993)
Season 9 episode 8.
Sensing there’s money to be made, Arthur launches Daley Into Space, installing satellite dishes.
He enlists Logic Lawson, who is scared of heights, to fix East German camouflaged dishes to homes.
The first job is a disaster, as they go to the wrong house and all the dishes are malfunctioning anyway.
Then, he gets a job at Fingers Rossetti’s home, which makes Arthur very nervous as the nickname refers to his reputation for chopping off people’s fingers.
Minder: Last Orders At The Winchester (1993)
Season 9 episode 9.
As Dave approaches twenty-five years at The Winchester, Arthur organises an event.
He hires Heart Attack to decorate the interior, only he goes too far and wrecks the infrastructure.
They need to raise £30K in a week otherwise The Winchester closes for good.
A football game is organised against the police and Heart Attack steals Vic’s grass money.
The money is laundered via the raffle and although the verdict isn’t declared, it looks good for The Winchester.
Minder: Cars and Pints and Pains (1993)
Season 9 episode 10.
With car sales rock bottom, Arthur decides to hire them out instead.
They all go, but unfortunately they don’t have MOTs, which attracts the attention of DS Morley.
In with the cars hired, new boy Winston includes Arthur’s Daimler.
It’s being tracked by the police around the country for speeding, driving off without paying for petrol and going the wrong way down a one-way street.
Arthur also initiates happy hour at The Winchester.
The place is packed when drinks are half-price, but as soon as the hour comes to an end, the place empties again.
Minder: The Great Trilby (1993)
Season 9 episode 11.
Arthur is being tracked by a man who turns out to be an Australian private detective.
The death of a man down under by the name of Daley has left an undisclosed, but significant, will.
Arthur is in line for inheritance, and after tracing his family tree back, he’s the owner of two tickets to Australia as he embarks on the next step of the journey.
Then, after forging parking fine tickets, he discovers that he will be ineligible for the inheritance.
Salvation comes in the unlikely form of DS Morley, who agrees to drop charges in return for a £2K donation to the police benevolent fund.
Minder: A Taste Of Money (1993)
Season 9 episode 12.
Following on from the previous episode, Arthur and Ray head off for Australia in pursuit of the inheritance.
Arthur has jet lag and he’s all over the place.
He starts spending money like he’s already got it but others are also claiming to be the rightful heirs, including one who is the front of a criminal consortium.
When Arthur visits the estate he discovers that the home is a shack and there’s thousands of acres of arid, dry bush.
There’s worse to come though, when the legal representative announces another man as the heir and Arthur finds out he has accumulated big bills at the hotel and only has a one-way flight ticket.
Minder: For a Few Dollars More (1993)
Season 9 episode 13.
The third and final episode filmed in Australia, Arthur and Ray are forced into living in poor conditions and scraping an existence, as they try to get enough money to return home.
Arthur turns to street trading and then he’s approached by a big-time gangster, who wants him to smuggle.
In the meantime, while trying to sell a personal organiser to a man in a bar, it turns out to be an undercover policeman, who is investigating… stolen personal organisers.
Told to leave the country, that’s exactly what Arthur and Ray do.
