🌒🎣 The sounds of the night and an early morning tench session

The temperature is nowhere near what it was in Montenegro a few days ago but, nevertheless, it’s still very warm indeed here in the UK at present.

We slept with the windows open last night and there were plenty of noises coming from outside.

However, I’m happy to say that they weren’t people sounds but rather the local wildlife: muntjac, foxes and tawny owls.

I can live with that.

It was another early morning start on the tench lake, which isn’t fishing very well at the moment

It is a challenge, but I’m always up for that, and I do find myself thinking at the moment that if I catch one that’s a great start and anything else will be a bonus

That gives you an idea of where things are at.

I mixed the brown crumb and sweetcorn, thew several balls out and then cast over single grain of corn at a range of 20 metres from the bank.

Again, there were no feeding bubbles at all on the lake.

I blanked and the fact that I was the only tench angler on the lake tells you all that you need to know.

Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 8mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce lead. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.

Nature notes: Swifts (c.20) feeding over the lake.
