🎣 An early morning pond session, a muntjac and thoughts on commercial fisheries

📹 Watch the accompanying video

Another early morning start, this time I was fishing a pool, and a small one at that.

Or was it a large pond?

There’s more in the video about the clarifications between pond, pool and lake.

Although much smaller than the usual tench venue that I fish, nevertheless my approach was exactly the same, as I was still going for that particular species.

On this occasion though, they were the proverbial needle in a haystack.

However, as I often say, it’s good to set yourself a challenge.

Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 8mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce lead. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.

Nature notes: Grey wagtail in undulating flight along the pond. Kingfisher perched on an overhanging branch before moving on.

Once home, and while doing my daily task of replenishing the bird feeding station, I heard a muntjac in the local woodland.

I filmed it, not knowing whether it would be captured by the phone, but it was, and so if you’ve never heard a muntjac before then listen to the video.

Plus, as a PS, there’s also footage of a muntjac seen later in the day.

While I was fishing, I was thinking about commercial fisheries, and I share a few thoughts on those, again, in the video.
