❄️ December 2024

🎣 Scraping ice, going fishing and a huge landmark angling session

We had a sharp overnight frost and so, before I could leave the drive this morning, the ice scraper put in an appearance.

I was on a pool that was coloured due to the heavy recent rain.

The conditions in general were against me and, after a few sucked maggots early on, it went dead.

I was determined to catch a roach (my target species) though and, right at the end of my extended stay, I banked one.

Landmark session?

Very much so, because the football game later in the afternoon, was my last with The New Saints.

Yes, after eleven seasons, it’s time to move on.

I gave my notice in at the end of November and today is the day.

I’ll share more in upcoming blog posts but I’ve got just three words to say.

Watch out fishes.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Home-made 3” float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.

Fished about three metres from the bank, beyond the drop-off and in open water. Depth was six-feet.

Fished one/two white maggots over brown crumb and red/white maggots.

Nature notes

One noisy ring-necked parakeet flew into woodland beyond the pool.

Seven mallards (4m, 3f) on the pool.
