❄️ December 2024

🎣 Back home, back on the bank for the shortest day of the year and some philosophical thoughts

Although I haven’t fished for three days, due to being in Slovenia on football duties, nevertheless I haven’t even thought about fishing at all. Not even once.

Once home though, I made plans to go the following morning. Today.

There has been some heavy rain, while I’ve been away, and I wasn’t surprised to see the pool that I headed for was a horrible brown murky colour.

However, experience on that venue tells me that it wouldn’t be an issue.

In fact, it tends to bring the fish on the feed, and that was the case when I caught a small roach first cast.

They do tend to be the staple diet on that sort of place and we should never think that’s a bad thing because, when the conditions get really tough during the winter, the roach is often one of the few species that will feed.

There’s more in the video, plus some philosophical thoughts. I often drop those in.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Home-made 3” float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.

Fished about three metres from the bank, beyond the drop-off and in open water. Depth was six-feet.

Fished one/two white maggots over brown crumb and red/white maggots.

Nature notes

Single cormorant flew overhead.

Green woodpecker calling in flight.
