🎣 Groundhog Day: Scraping ice, going fishing, another huge landmark angling session and football
What a difference a day makes?
Well, not in this case, because as per the previous morning I scraped ice from the car windshield, went fishing and it was another huge landmark session.
This time, because it was my very first angling outing as a retired gentleman.
That’s what I tell my wife she has to call me by the way, not an old age pensioner, but a retired gentleman.
The fishing was very slow indeed, though, as you would expect.
After a while, I found myself thinking that just one fish on the bank would be a result.
I would have settled for a small roach.
However, it turned out to be a decent bream, especially so when you take the venue into account.
A great way to kick-off a new season in my life.
Once home, I did my weekly recording with Jeff Pearson for his radio show in north Wales.
No fishing this week due to the Christmas schedule, however, we did talk about Welsh football.
Then I logged my latest football memorabilia items.
One in particular is very impressive indeed.
Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Home-made 3” float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
Fished about three metres from the bank, beyond the drop-off and in open water. Depth was six-feet.
Fished two white maggots over brown crumb and red/white maggots.
Nature notes
Two cormorants in flight over the pool. They were quite low and I’m sure that if I wasn’t there, they would have landed.
Another bird seen in flight later.
Three ring-necked parakeets flew from far bank woodland.
Raven mobbed by a jackdaw.
Female sparrowhawk.
