🎣 First full year of retirement around the corner and my angling plans for 2025
On December 22 this year, I finally said farewell to structured work (although I’m still open-minded), albeit I had been just part-time anyway for almost three years.
In fact, once I hit the grand old age of sixty (in April 2022), I was hoping to move on from my job, as I wasn’t happy where I was.
I set up an Indeed account and, in quick succession, I applied for five jobs (two x care home-type jobs, two night hotel porter positions and an overnight shelf-stacker in a supermarket).
They were all part-time and local(ish) to where I live, and I was confident at least one would come good, but I didn’t even get a single interview.
I quickly came to the realisation that my age was the factor.
On paper, the fact that I was in my sixties wasn’t exactly a positive to starting a new job.
Therefore, I stayed where I was and got on with it, knowing that it was only a matter of time before I could take the next stage in my working life.
That brings me to the present and although it’s been less than a fortnight since I moved on, I haven’t looked back.
Which then takes me to the immediate future.
My plan is to go fishing every day in 2025.
Bring it on and watch this space.
