🎣 Boxing Day fishing on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal and a change is as good as a rest

I’ve enjoyed my pool and pond sessions, which have occupied my time for a number of weeks now, but I felt like a change.

Therefore, on Boxing Day morning while it was still dark, I set off for the local Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal.

I felt that the clarity of the water was always going to be important, but, as we haven’t had any sharp frosts for a while, I was hoping that it wasn’t going to be crystal clear.

In fact it wasn’t, it was very coloured indeed.

Regardless of all of that though, as long as your bait’s in the water, you’ve always got a chance, and with my first cast I had a bite which resulted in a small bream.

At least I wasn’t a Boxing Day blanker.

It proved to be the only fish of the session.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Home-made 3” float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.

Fished the boat channel in five-feet of water.

Fished one/two white maggots over brown crumb and red/white maggots.

Nature notes

A pair of noisy mistle thrushes in the area.
