🎣 The last angling session of 2024 and the final fish of the year is… and the blackcap drama
After a couple of blanks on the bounce, I was determined to get a fish on the bank this morning. Not simply for the fact that I wanted to arrest the decline but, as it was the last day of the year, I wanted to go out with a fish.
I was on a small pool targeting roach, and twenty minutes in, the float disappeared and I had a fish on the bank.
Taking the venue into account, it was a decent enough roach as well.
Although I wouldn’t describe it as hectic, nevertheless I did have a trickle of small roach activity during the session.
I was fishing a couple of rod lengths from the bank, in six feet of water and beyond the drop off.
The fishing was slow and that reflected the amount of feed that I put in, which was brown crumb and red/white maggots, with two white maggots on the hook.
Tackle
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Home-made 3” float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
Nature notes
Common buzzard low over the pool. Cormorant, high in flight, passing through. Six ring-necked parakeets landed in woodland beyond the far bank. Three ravens over the woodland semi-displaying.
Once home, I noticed the remains of the third sparrowhawk kill in the garden in recent days.
Was it a blackcap this time?
