🎣 A visit to Decathlon in Wednesbury, followed by a barbel session on Worcestershire’s River Teme
Admittedly, I do fish a lot, but I’m not entirely happy with how quickly I get through boots, and it’s not as if we’re talking buying cheap either.
Therefore, as the soles and body of my current pair decided they wanted to go their separate ways, I visited Decathlon to see what they had on offer.
Once the schools and work-related traffic had died down, my wife and I headed east for destination Wednesbury, in the Black Country.
I ended up with a nice looking pair of lower height wellington-type boots. Complete with a fleece liner, they cost £19.99 and I’ll report back once I’ve worn them for a number of months, if anyone is interested.
After some food, I loaded the car and this time drove in the opposite direction. SW to be precise, as I made my second visit of the month to the River Teme.
On the same stretch as my previous session, it was definitely mountain goat territory, just to reach the water’s edge.
Although I had a slight mishap, as recorded in the video, I eventually cast two rods out, settled back and waited. After six hours, I had a lost chub to show for my efforts. Never mind, there’s always tomorrow.
On the nature front, I hadn’t been fishing long before a pair of red kites passed overhead. A kingfisher at dusk landed on far bank overhanging willow branches.
Several noctules were feeding over the river late dusk onwards. There was lots of tawny owl calling going on during darkness and briefly, in the distance, a roe deer calling, followed by a muntjac.
