🎣 My grandson goes fishing for the first time, on the Staffs/Worcs Canal, where he catches three species of fish in less than an hour

My grandson, Tyler, has been saying for a while that he’d like to go fishing, so with just a few days of the school holidays remaining, his mom (my eldest daughter) asked if I would take him.

“Of course”, I replied, and so the two of them came to stay with us for a couple of days. I took Rebekah fishing when she was younger, but she wasn’t keen, to put it mildly.

This time though, as you can see in the video, she described the experience as ‘exciting’.

She even – albeit with plenty of encouragement required – threw some maggots around the float, as well as kissed a fish. She’s come a long way on the piscatorial front.

We went to the local Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal and, although I didn’t look at the time that we spent fishing, it was no more than an hour at the most.

With three species of fish on the bank – gudgeon, perch and roach – Tyler had an excellent debut session.

My wife, Debby, did the filming and we all had a great time.

Once home, it was still light, so Becky and I went nature-watching in local woodland. Unfortunately, no badgers, which were our main target, but we still had a very enjoyable twenty minutes or so.

A superb evening all round.
