Blogging life’s journey: August 2025

⚽️ A disappointing evening for Rangers, well done to the fishing village and my own football journey

I started off this evening watching Rangers in the UEFA Champions League play-offs. Already trailing 3-1 from the first-leg against Club Brugge, in no time at all they were losing 1-0 on the night and down to ten men.

Although I switched my focus to Grimsby Town v Manchester United in the English League Cup, I kept an internet eye on Rangers, just in case. As it was, they lost 6-0 and 9-1 overall.

What a game though it was in Lincolnshire, as the hosts threw away a 2-0 lead, with the encounter going to penalties at 2-2. In an incredibly thrilling finale, it was Grimsby Town who triumphed 12-11.

Well done to the fishing village, as the ITV commentator remarked at the end. For anyone who doesn’t know, by the way, Grimsby has a population in excess of 86,000…

As for my own football, I’m continuing to play every Tuesday evening. The last couple of weeks though, I’ve felt my fitness level needs to improve.

Therefore, as soon as Grimsby Town clinched victory, I changed and went for a run. That’s the plan, to jog every day, as opposed to my usual occasional approach.

Both physically and mentally, I will be much improved, even by next Tuesday.
