🎣 I might be in my winter clothes, but I’m still catching the summer species 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 No wrasse fishing holiday this autumn

🎣 A pike slowed down play but it didn’t stop it

The days are most definitely getting shorter, in fact I’ve now put the alarm on thirty minutes as far as waking to go fishing is concerned, compared to this time last week.

However, invariably I’m up before the alarm kicks in anyway, and that was the case this morning.

Back on the small pool, which has occupied a lot of my time this month, although I tend to get pike drawn in once I start putting bait out, on this occasion the predator was already there waiting for me.

I still managed to catch though, therefore regardless of the size of the perch, it was an enjoyable couple of hours.

Plus, I had a bonus tench.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.

A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.

I presented a single prawn and, due to the depth of water, I created a firm groundbait mix which contained loose maggots and prawns.

Nature notes while fishing

Green woodpecker calling in flight.

Grey heron circled the pool a couple of times.

My wife and I have very much enjoyed our autumn vacation each year in Trearddur Bay.

However, this time round it won’t be happening, and it’s all the fault of The New Saints Football Club.

Due to the successful UEFA campaign – which is still ongoing – the fixture list is fairly congested, to put it mildly.

However, I’m not complaining.

It’s what you call the price of success.

Trearddur Bay will still be there next year.
