🎣 Four species of fish on prawn 🍁 The last swifts of the year? πŸ—£οΈ The winter fuel allowance

🎣 Variety is the spice of life

It was a chilly start to the day, as everything in the natural world most definitely had an autumnal feel to it.

However, the tench continue to feed on the small pool that I’m fishing of late.

After all, as we know, fish are dictated to by water temperature, and that doesn’t move at the same rate as air temperature.

I only caught four fish but they were all different, as far as species is concerned.

Not bad for a couple of hours with prawn.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.

A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.

I presented a single prawn and, due to the depth of water, I created a firm groundbait mix which contained loose maggots and prawns.

Grey wagtail on the far side of the pool in flight.

Chiffchaff singing briefly.

🍁 The last swifts of the year?

Taking our dog for a walk early evening today (September 10), I saw two swifts in migration flight.

They were the first ones that I’ve seen this month but will they be the last?

Swifts are the last summer migrants to arrive, and the first to depart, so these are late birds, as far as that particular species is concerned.

πŸ—£οΈ Winter fuel allowance

The House of Commons has voted and the verdict is in.

Pensioners will now lose their automatic across-the-board Β£300 winter fuel allowance.

Just one labour MP – Jon Trickett – voted against the government.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, has claimed Β£3,700 as an MP, in order to heat her home.

Labour MP, Liam Byrne, has claimed more than any other member of parliament, as far as heating allowances are concerned.

In the last five years he has benefited to the tune of Β£18,400.

Socialism Communism in action.
