An early morning angling session, pushing yourself and the prawn fishing challenge
π£ The journey home from a working football game took me through five counties – Flintshire , Cheshire, Denbighshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire – so it was no surprise that I didnβt get to bed until well after 1.00 a.m.
However, a few hours later, and I was up at the crack of dawn to go fishing.
The importance of pushing yourself.
I had plenty of early activity on the pool that I was fishing, with suspected small roach the species that was picking up the prawn.
Then, it went extremely quiet, and as I thought, a pike had moved into the swim. Surprise, surprise.
I will be targeting them on that particular venue in due course, but, for now, they are making a nuisance of themselves.
You can follow the session via the video, as well as more on the prawn fishing challenge.
πͺ± Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12β rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.
I presented a single prawn and, due to the depth of water, I created a firm groundbait mix which contained loose maggots and prawns.
π¦ Nature notes while fishing
Calling raven in flight.
Three silent ravens circled the pool.
Five noisy ring-necked parakeets overhead in flight.
Horse chestnuts looking very autumnal indeed, with leaves various shades of brown and yellow.
Two cormorants in flight.
