Based on the television series from the sixties: The Avengers, a movie from 1988
🎥 A 1988 Warner Bros. movie, The Avengers stars Ralph Fiennes (John Steed), Uma Thurman (Emma Peel), Sean Connery (Sir August de Wynter) and Jim Broadbent (Mother).
When a scientific project that intervenes in the weather is compromised, Dr. Emma Peel is highlighted as the chief suspect.
Steed is sent to investigate and he doubts that it is Peel, which is confirmed in due course, when a double is discovered.
Behind it all is the evil scientist, Sir August de Wynter.
After joining forces, Steed and Peel defeat the enemy in the end and de Wynter is killed.
In spite of the all-star cast, the movie was not very well received.
In fact, even before release, the publicity around it wasn’t positive and, in the end, it failed to even hit the budget costs at the box office ($60 million/$54.7 million).
I only realised afterwards that the movie was listed as a comedy.
I didn’t find it funny. My opinion, of course, others may disagree.
