🎣 Another specimen stickleback caught by design
You can never have too much of a good thing and, for the fourth session on the bounce, I was targeting three-spined sticklebacks on a brook.
As per the last visit, it was hard going, but again I caught a fish of 4.5g.
It was from the exact spot, so more than likely the same fish.
There was just the one other stickleback, which was significantly smaller.
Although they are hardy and obliging, nevertheless the sharp overnight falls in air temperature recently will have had an effect.
Still, as long as your bait’s in the water and all that.
The session was about thirty minutes, which with the fish being found in pockets, is enough, as the brook I fished is quite close to the source spring, so is generally very shallow.

Tackle: Poachers Pocket mini-rod and reel. Reel line was 4lb Maxima Chameleon straight through. A small shot was nipped on the line, four inches from the Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook. Bait was a single red/white maggot, which I nipped with scissors.
Nature notes: Both mistle thrush and song thrush singing in the immediate area where I fished. Heard a pheasant but not seen.
