🎣 A morning angling session and still scraping ice
The days are getting noticeably longer now and, although I was up at 6.10 a.m., I realise that I need to change the wake-up time, as the daylight is beginning to push back against the hours of darkness.
After several days of scraping ice from the car windshield, today I thought that wouldn’t be the case.
However, and although it was minimal, I did have to remove a layer of ice before I could leave the drive.
It certainly felt pleasant though and I was hopeful of a fish or two.
What we expect and what we get however, as anglers, doesn’t always match and that was the case this time.
There was just the one perch that obliged but at least I wasn’t a blanker.
On a small pool, I fished one rod-length from the bank, in five-feet of water, over loose red/white maggots, with two white maggots on the hook.

Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 1.2g float. Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.
Nature notes: Grey heron perched alongside a brook as I made my way to the pool. Song thrush singing in the immediate area. Heard (but not seen) my first chiffchaff of the year. Male pheasant in the area around the pool. Pair of grey wagtails in flight across the water. Two ring-necked parakeets feeding in a tree, silent but showing really well.
