Blogging life’s journey: June 2025

🎣 Session three of the new river season and it’s another return to the Severn

After a couple of trips to the mighty Severn, it was back to Sabrina for my third outing of the 2025/26 river season.

Still in the English county of Shropshire, I was five or six miles further downstream from my previous trips.

A different club water, it was also significantly less busy, and I was able to both park and fish where I wanted to.

I fished with lobworm boilie on the left rod, which was just off overhanging willows, and peperami on the right rod, out in open water, both on hair rigs.

I hooked a PVA bag to both, containing boilies and peperami/pellets respectively.

Although we have left the official heatwave status behind, nevertheless it was very sunny and warm.

With the sun directly in front of me, within an hour though – as I was there for the evening and combined with cloud cover moving in and the sun itself dropping – it was very pleasant indeed.

As far as catching was concerned though, it wasn’t pleasant at all. Although I had a few plucks from smaller fish, nothing big took a fancy.

Never mind, there’s always tomorrow.

Tackle: Wychwood Barbel 1.5 test curve rod with Shimano 4000D reel and Harrison Interceptor 1lb 10oz test curve rod with Shimano 6000 reel. Size 6 hooks and 1.5 ounce flat leads.

Nature notes: Muntjac crossed the road near Bobbington, as I drove to the river. Male reed bunting in the immediate area. Not much on the river, just a female mallard with two well-developed young. A lesser black-backed gull patrolling the river up and downstream.
