🎣 No tench on the bank but lots of roach, who weren’t put off by the large hook
You can never have too much of a good thing, so the saying goes, and, after yesterday’s visit to a small pool in pursuit of tench, it was more of the same first thing this morning.
Fishing with a grain of sweetcorn over brown crumb and corn, I cast a couple of rod-lengths from the bank in six-feet of water,
The bed of the pool is mucky, so in order to combat that, I allowed the bait to settle more slowly by putting the shot either side of the float.
I didn’t connect with my target species but nevertheless, it was action all the way with roach, who weren’t deterred by a large hook.
The session was 2.75 hours and, as always, regardless of what’s on the bank, an enjoyable one.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan waggler 1.2g. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
Nature notes: Lots of gulls (c.40) feeding on field behind the swim on arrival. Mostly lesser black-backed gulls but four herring gulls in with them. Grey heron perched on branches in the water from a fallen tree. Song thrush singing. Stock doves (at least two) calling. Raven calling in overhead flight. Female mallard with six newly-hatched young.
