🎣 Three species of fish on prawn, a predator in the swim and talking angling on radio
My body clock is certainly tuned-in to the fact that I’m doing mostly early fishing sessions at the moment.
Often, like today, I’m awake just before the alarm sounds.
I made a flask of tea, loaded the car and in no time at all, I was on my way to a small pool.
Mixing some brown crumb and prawns, I threw balls out at 2-3 rod-lengths from the bank.
Then casting a single prawn, I didn’t have long to wait for the first fish, as a trickle of mostly roach and a few perch then put in an appearance.
Once a pike moved in, however, the smaller fish action stopped. They were still around but, as soon as I threw bait out and they moved in, the pike smashed into them.
Although the second-half of the three-hour session was very quiet, I did net a tench, which was not bothered by the predator.
On my last cast, I caught a roach.

Nature notes: Skylark singing high over a field, as I made my way to the pool. Grey heron on the far bank when I arrived. Grey wagtail alongside the pool. Pair of ravens in low flight, one bird calling.
