🎣 A chilly start to a June day but, whatever the conditions, just go fishing anyway
It was another one of those starts to the day that felt more late autumn, rather than early summer.
The heading sums up my thoughts though in a nutshell.
Fishing a pool that isn’t a noted tench water, I went straight in at the deep end, with prawn over brown crumb and prawns.
Casting alongside a small patch of lilies in 5-6 feet of water, I got off to a great start with an early tinca in the net.
Albeit not big, there are pike in the pool, and invariably they do have a detrimental effect on fishing.
After the tench, although I did catch roach and perch, whenever I threw bait out, a predator flashed through as it searched out food of its own.
Although not big enough to take tench, nevertheless I don’t mind lots of smaller fish in the swim as it gives the bigger ones more confidence to feed boldly.

Nature notes: Song thrush singing in the tree immediately behind me. At least two in the area. Female mallard with three very small young and one with four well-developed young.
