🎶 Galaxy by War and more musical memories from my teenage years
After listening to a few Spotify-created daily mix playlists, it’s now back to a more focused approach, as far as music in the car is concerned.
Launched in 1977, the Galaxy album from War was their tenth studio release.
I was fifteen at the time and well in to my music, which was exclusively what I would collectively lump together as ‘black music’.
Funk, Motown, soul, reggae. I think you get the picture.
Although I didn’t buy the Galaxy album, I did add the 12” version of the title track to my collection.
It was described as ‘7 min 38 sec of pure funk’ on the cover and they weren’t contravening trading standards by stating that either.
The album contains just five songs but the shortest is Baby Face at 5 minutes and 4 seconds, while The Seven Tin Soldiers stretches out to 14 minutes and 15 seconds.
I love it. I’ve already played it a number of times and I’m not anywhere near saturation point yet.
