🎣 My weekly angling slot on radio, followed by getting the season underway barbel fishing on the River Severn where I was more Auckland City rather than Bayern Munich
Although the fishing slot that I have on Colwyn Bay’s Bayside Radio goes out on Thursday afternoon, we record it on Monday morning.
Jeff Pearson always starts by asking me if I’ve been fishing since our last chat and that’s the opening footage in the video.
Prior to the radio recording, I went to get a new tyre fitted and after it I did some gardening for someone.
Then I went fishing. It’s June 16, the rivers are now open, and I drove across the county boundary into Shropshire. Destination River Severn.
With it being a beautiful day, I thought it would be busy, but I was able to park right by the entrance to the river, as opposed to ten minutes’ walk away, as I had expected.
The tackle used is listed below and I show the bait approach in the video, which was a lobworm boilie on one rod and peperami on the other.
The river itself was heavily coloured and had risen sharply over the weekend but was now falling.
There’s more in the video but it proved to be a tough opening day for other anglers as well as me (I blanked).
Although I was more Auckland City rather than Bayern Munich, at least it wasn’t just me. If you don’t know, the latter beat the former 10-0 the other day.
Tackle: Wychwood Barbel 1.5 test curve rod with Shimano 4000D reel and Harrison Interceptor 1lb 10oz test curve rod with Shimano 6000 reel. Size 6 hooks and 1.5 ounce flat leads.
Nature notes: Reed warbler in dense grasses alongside the river. Chiffchaff singing behind the swim. Male reed bunting in flight across the river. A female mandarin duck passed in front of me, which I captured for the video. Two daubenton’s feeding over the river late dusk.
