Wish It Would Rain, a great album from The Temptations but tinged with sadness and tragedy
Released in 1968, Wish It Would Rain was The Temptations’ seventh studio album and the last one to feature the classic five members – Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin, Otis Williams and Paul Williams.
It’s a fantastic album but firstly there was sadness and secondly, tragedy.
The cracks had been appearing for some time within the group, the result being the departure of David Ruffin. Sadness.
The writer of my two favourite songs on the album – I Could Never Love Another (After Loving You) and I Wish it Would Rain – Rodger Penzabene, penned the tracks after he discovered his wife had been unfaithful.
He then committed suicide. Tragedy.
