Fishing the Staffs/Worcs Canal with Ian Clarke and a nice perch on the bank and Diana Ross & The Supremes Join The Temptations
I met Ian Clarke on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal for a couple of hours or so fishing up to dark.
It was a fun session – which is what they should all be – and while Ian won on quantity, I edged it as far as quality was concerned, with a nice perch.
We both fished maggots (Ian a single, me double) in the boat channel and beyond, over loose maggots and, in my case, brown crumb as well.
We’ve known each other for many years, since we went to school way back in the mid-sixties.
It was a great session – which you can follow in the video – and, in many ways, the fish were secondary. It’s always great to catch up with Ian.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan waggler 1.2g. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
Nature notes: Female mallard with two well-developed young, the only birds seen on the canal. Two calling ravens passing over. Noctule bat feeding at dusk.
The latest album to grace my car journeys, courtesy of my Spotify account, is Diana Ross & The Supremes Join The Temptations.
Released in 1968, the collaboration saw the two best-selling Motown groups come together for the first UK number one album for both artists.
I’ve loved I’m Gonna Make You Love Me ever since I bought Motown Gold in 1975.
Likewise, I Second That Emotion has always been one of my favourites as well. It’s one of those songs where the cover is on an equal footing with the original, which was Smokey Robinson & The Miracles in 1967.
They’re all good songs but Funky Broadway rises slightly above the others for me.
It was the 8th studio album for The Temptations and the first one after Dennis Edwards took over from David Ruffin.
