🎣 Blog day and fishing a pond
Saturday seems to come round very quickly – times flies as you get older, so they say – but here we are in another weekend and, for me, it’s blog day. It was 22 years and 28 weeks ago when I posted my first entry online.
My site is now titled Blogging Life’s Journey, back then it was Stewart Bloor’s Angling Journal. It’s evolved to include other things but still has lots of fishing, especially now that I’m retired.
Yesterday, I was on a pool, first thing this morning it was a pond that took my fancy. As I said in the video from the previous session, it’s all about size perspective. Today it was a smaller body of water and shallower. A pond.
The water was heavily coloured and, it goes without saying, cold. It’s about a metre deep, and I fished 1.5 rod-lengths from the bank, towards trailing branches that penetrated the surface. The bait was a single maggot, with a few loose ones being trickled in occasionally.
I fished for almost three hours and it was extremely slow. I did have a few half-hearted plucks from roach though, with a couple of sucked maggots the closest I got to a fish on the bank. I still enjoyed the session however and I can honestly say that, catch or blank, I’ve never had a bad one yet.
I always keep an eye open as far as the natural world is concerned and, while tucked away in cover, a cormorant was about to land on the water. It spotted me though and quickly rose in flight and disappeared.
There was one kingfisher sighting, as a bird flashed through low over the water. The highlight was a marsh tit, which flew into a tree alongside the pond. I’ve been fishing there for five years and it’s the first that I’ve seen.
